Customer story
From solo practice to multidisciplinary clinic, on one platform.
How Tulip Women’s Health outgrew its legacy EMR after ten years. Dr. Yuh, Medical Director, Tulip Women’s Health, Oakville.
The breaking point: support that never picked up
After a decade on a legacy EMR, the most persistent frustration was not a missing feature. It was silence.
“The number one most frustrating thing was that we couldn’t get in touch with customer service.”
During service outages, her medical assistants would sit on hold for an hour, sometimes only to be disconnected, or told the issue could not be fixed. When the practice needed modern capabilities such as AI documentation, appointment notifications and online booking, the vendor’s answer was to bolt on third-party tools, each with its own cost and its own support line.
“Instead of fixing it on their own, they kept adding third parties, which was adding more cost. I had to talk to the EMR vendor, then the booking tool, then the AI scribe. I did not want to be the one having to organize everything.”
The fear of switching
Dr. Yuh is candid about why she stayed so long.
“Nobody wants to switch EMRs. It’s a big deal.”
Ten years of patient records carry real weight: the worry that documents will be lost, that something medico-legally important will not be findable, that staff will struggle through a painful learning curve. These are the right concerns. They are also the reason EMERGE owns the transition end to end.
Growth forced the decision
Tulip Women’s Health was expanding from one gynecologist into a multidisciplinary clinic. A patchwork of a legacy EMR plus bolted-on tools could barely support one practitioner. It had no chance of coordinating a team this size, across different disciplines, schedules and billing models. The clinic chose to grow on EMERGE instead, with every practitioner, physician and allied health alike, working from the same scheduling, records and patient communication layer from day one.
The switch
“The whole transition was very smooth.”
Two things stood out. First, EMERGE trained her staff directly.
“I like the fact that they are the ones who train my staff, as opposed to me having to train them.”
Second, the platform let her step back from administrative work entirely.
“It frees me. I can just do my doctor stuff. And I know my staff really appreciates it. They like it much better than the old system, for sure.”
Where the time savings showed up
Scheduling that polices itself
The practice sends patients single-use booking links tied to a specific appointment type. Links cannot be reused or repurposed, which eliminated a steady stream of rescheduling and cancellation churn.
“That’s when I realized this is saving us a lot of time.”
One click instead of a printer
Asked to name the single biggest change to her day-to-day workflow, she points to being able to securely share prescriptions and requisitions with patients at the click of a button. What used to mean printing and handing over paper now happens instantly.
A fax volume no human team could absorb
The practice receives roughly 100 faxes a day.
“I don’t think they’d be able to go through that without EMERGE.”
Feedback that actually lands
“With bigger companies, you have a suggestion, but they don’t really care. With EMERGE, I know you can do something about it.”
Her advice to physicians on the fence
Asked in writing what she would tell another physician considering a change, her full answer was one word: “Switch!”
“The world is changing. It’s going to be more AI-driven, and it’s inevitable that we all need to adapt. Our medical record systems are very archaic compared to what dental or physio offices use. EMERGE is very special because it combines both worlds. You should definitely talk to the EMERGE team and give it a try.”
